NEM 3.0 and solar penetration

https://insideclimatenews.org/news/27042023/inside-clean-energy-california-rooftop-solar/?utm_source=InsideClimate+News&utm_campaign=e4e4f599a1-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_04_29_01_00&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_29c928ffb5-e4e4f599a1-328586820

What is the most ironic thing about NEM 3.0 is new construction is MANDATED by the state to have solar rooftop. But, you don't get any compensation for it. You'll spend an extra $25,000 for a solar system that doesn't pay for itself. Another permit, another fee. C'est la vie...

INCOME ADJUSTED Electric RATES

 https://ktla.com/news/local-news/fixed-rate-electricity-bill-charges-how-they-would-work/

This is major concern for most ratepayers. How can the 3 IOU's be expected to gather and verify your income? I assume it will be through Franchise Tax board. I'm not sure this is a good thing.

WALMART - EV market maker

 https://corporate.walmart.com/newsroom/2023/04/06/leading-the-charge-walmart-announces-plan-to-expand-electric-vehicle-charging-network

This is still 7 years out and they have an extensive EV charging base. I would like to see if this pans out.

Big Oil, CALI, and taxing the rich

TBH, Newsome and taxing exorbitant profits is ostensibly a win for the public good. However, what would be better is to find out HOW MUCH exorbitant profit is and take confiscate that. Taxes are good and all, but if you're cheating, manipulating, then those profits are "ill gotten gains".

Can we agree that Big Oil will blame the existing taxes on Cali's special oil for their massive profits? Bueller?

Post truth, experts, and a dystopian society

I've thought about the Trump era and the time leading up to it.

This is a great piece in The New Atlantis:

https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/the-technocrats-dilemma

The author makes a good point about public vs. private bureaucrats and what needs to be said and what ISN'T said. Sadly, our system is beginning to look more Soviet like.

2019 - Blockchain or not

Ok all. block chain was the buzz word and there are promising startups, but let's wait a few years for full maturity, ok?

CPUC breakup

When the guv vetoed all the CPUC reforms that were proposed last year, it made my stomach ache. I think the thought that the CPUC needs to change is pretty evident, from San Bruno gas explosion, to the Aliso Canyon leak to the San Onofre sweetheart settlement that put the customers on the hook for the break down.

Mike Gatto, Assemblyman for Glendale area has put forth a n intitiative for this fall's ballot

When is an ISO not so Independent?

I've read a couple of stories about Imperial Irrigation District and ISO on Path 42 in IID BA area. IID was allowed to install several miles of transmission line in its own district that was connected to solar PV. They constructed and installed thinking that they would be allowed to connect to the grid and recoup costs by selling to SCE - this wasn't the case.

So, who's at fault on this one?

ab2514 - energy storage

Energy storage has got to be on  every LSE's mind. According to the law, the CPUC will set up targets (5%) for each LSE. Seems kind of a good idea, especially if the summer months are cranking up the AA/C units.

Scope Management

I think that the Scope and Time management process areas are the toughest - so far.
